We were tasked with the complete transformation of St Michael's House at 2 Elizabeth Street, Belgravia, delivering a comprehensive strip out back to shell and core followed by full Category A and B fit-out for Grosvenor Estates' operations team.
This ambitious project required creating a sophisticated workplace across multiple floors of a Grade 2 listed Art Deco building, incorporating office space, a stunning chapel boardroom, roof terrace, shower facilities, meeting rooms, breakout spaces and phone booths.
St Michael's House, originally built as a parish clubhouse in 1938 by N F Cachemaille-Day, is a Grade 2 listed building featuring distinctive plum-coloured Dutch brick, original oak parquet flooring, and most remarkably, a chapel with barrel vaulted roof and notable mosaic by Newton. Grosvenor Estates required a workplace that would honour this architectural heritage while providing a contemporary environment for their operations team.
The project delivered a complete transformation that seamlessly blends heritage preservation with modern functionality. MWA carefully restored existing heritage features while creating contemporary spaces that respect the building's Art Deco character. The chapel was sensitively converted into a spectacular boardroom, preserving the existing mosaic while installing modern meeting facilities. The design incorporated sympathetic styling alongside sustainable elements including extensive planting throughout all floors.
This landmark heritage project demonstrates MWA's expertise in delivering complex listed building transformations. The sensitive restoration has created an exceptional workplace that celebrates St Michael's House while providing Grosvenor Estates with a prestigious headquarters. The project showcases our capability to balance conservation requirements with modern workplace needs, delivering spaces that are both historically respectful and functionally outstanding.
